Biography - Sensei Jamie Rickard I first dabbled in martial arts as a kid but is was not until 1998 that I seriously started along my martial arts path. It was then that I joined the Jiu-jitsu program at the Academy of Martial Arts, the same club that I now teach out of. I studied Goju Jiu-jitsu Ryu and grappling with heavy emphasis on grappling. My Sensei at the time soon left the Academy of Martial arts to open his own dojo and I of course followed. As time passed I found the class times harder and harder to attend ... getting married and having children tends to do that. So I started looking for other dojos to train out of that would fit better into my lifestyle and schedule. I found little in the Kingston area that had everything that I wanted, traditional Jiu-jitsu, grappling and the right times. So I decided to start my own club and now I’ve come full circle, I now instruct out of the same dojo that I began my martial arts journey in. During my search for a dojo / organization to train with I met a member of Jukoshin Ryu International. I attended several classes in Ottawa and liked what I saw and have been a part of the Jukoshin Jiu-jitsu family ever since.
